Server IP Changing Again! |

Hey everyone!
I have good and bad news. The good news is we will be moving to a new and much better home. We will be moving our server from a RIM datacentre (RIM makes the Blackberry phone) to Canada's largest Datacentre in downtown Toronto at 151 front street. This location is the main and most important datacentre for Bell, Telus, Sprint, Primus, Verizon, Hydro One, Shaw, Rogers, Cogeco, EastLink, Cogent and many, many more.
The bad side is our IP will be changing! Yes, I know - we JUST changed IP's! I do not yet know the new IP's but I will post them as soon as I know what they are.
To give you an idea how important this location is for Canada, if a bomb were to blow up this building nearly every person in Ontario and Quebec would be affected with the majority going completely offline. So it is THE BEST location we can get in Canada and I will have personal 24/7 access to it. This means better pings, cheaper bandwidth and cheaper colocation due to the intense compeition between the companies located in this facility.
The facility itself is a 10 story datacentre and has 9 seperate trunks of fibre with roughly 10,000 strands between them all. Bandwidth is cheap with a 100Mb dedicated fibre connection costing $400/month (the same things costs $3,600 if I located in Kitchener). Dedicated means UNLIMITED bandwidth - not your cheezy home connection you get from Rogers. I could download 26,000GB - thats 26 Terabytes - in a month on this connection and our host wouldn't even bat an eye at it. Needless to say I am very excited about this connection as we have never had a location as good as this. I just want people to realize how top notch this place is.
Our monthly cost for co-location and a connection at this location is $100/month + HST. The company we are co-locating with is the company I am part owner of and IT Manager of - FibreXpress. This means I not only manage our server, I manage the connection the server is getting. Our upstream provider is Cogent - the 4th largest company specializing in creating North America/European wide fibre Networks. You can check out their network at:

The network we will be on will stretch from California, USA to Kiev, Turkey.
We will also be doing some changes to the Operating System of the server as well as changing out the power supply. Total downtime is expected to be 2-4 days.

Admin and Regular Level Move |

Now that I have worked out a lot of the bugs with the new account system it is time that our Regulars move over to the new system. I have deactivated all the regulars as of now. If you wish to be regular again you will have to take the test again and add yourself as Regular in the new system. If you have any errors or glitches please take a screenshot and email it to me and I will fix the problem ASAP.
As for admins, I have deactivated admin for everyone not in the new system. For whatever reason no one really responded to my emails so we currently have two ultimate, two advanced and two basic level administrators. Seems we have a shortage of admins so things are going to suck until everyone follows the process and contacts me about moving over.
I will keep the admin offers open for one week from today. Any admin that does not contact me before that time will be removed and will not be able to claim their current rank.
We cannot have inactive admins who don't visit our website at least once every two weeks. That's no good!

Major Regular and Administrator Overhaul |

I have finally completed work on our shiney new player administration system and because of this new system there are going to be quite a few changes. First off we are now $200 short on donations these past two months. Guys, you are simply not keeping up. I hear lots of excuses about lack of money and I can understand how things can be tough. But I also know how much people waste on things they don't need to and I feel a lot of the people doing the complaining can easily afford $10/month but simply don't want to pay for something they can get on other servers for free. Anyway my point is I'm moving everyone over the a paid system for admin because only a few donate on a regular basis and the rest I have to push and prod to do anything.
However money is not the only thing this server needs. It also needs good admins and hard work - both of which are as important as money! So I have also taken those things into account.
How does this affect current administrators? I will be dealing with current administrators on a one to one basis. I can tell you we will be moving to this system very quickly, so you must move fast. I will be deactivating the old system on Friday. Any administrator not in the new system will be lost and their administrator status removed. If you want to stay as admin there are a few things I need you to do right away before we can talk about your future as an administrator at VirsPub. First you must register with the new system (see the instructions on how to do this below). I cannot make you an administrator without having you in the system. with your online name, your STEAMID, your steam friends name, your paypal email, roughly how much you have donated to VirsPub in 2010 and any comments you wish to send. I will reply with what my offer is. Please keep these offers to yourself. If I hear that you have been talking about any offers I send to you I will take that offer away. The reason for this is I dont need people bothering me for not getting the same deal as someone else. If you are ok with the offer you will be added as an administrator and the offer will be applied to your account.
You will see a new link on our menu called "Account Manager". You can access this link after you register and logon to the website. If this is your first time clicking this link it will come up with a form asking for some basic information. It requires your STEAMID, a link password and your paypal email.
You can get your link password by logging onto the server and writing down the key that is given to you the first time you spawn. You can get your SteamdID by looking yourself up in psychostats and finding it on the lefthand site of the screen. You will know it when you see it. Finally you can enter is the paypal email you plan to donate from. Please make sure you do not enter in the wrong email as it will cause you not to receive any credits when you donate money to the server.
Once you submit this information you will be brought to a screen with a lot of donation buttons. Each button allows you to donate a different amount as either a one time donation, or a reoccuring 30 day donation. If you have a reoccuring donation setup there is also a button to cancel that donation if you so wish to do so.
Under that you have your "Account Information" tab. This tab shows all the details we have about your account. It also provides you to a link of your Psychostats as well as the ability to convert your playtime into credits. For every 3 hours your play on the server, you receive 1 credit.
The "Account Level" section is the most important section, it details all the admin levels, what you need to gain access to those admin levels and what you have already completed to access those levels. Once a level becomes available to you, you can activate that level on your own and it instantly becomes active on the server. You are allowed to move up in ranks without restriction, however you can only move down in rank once every 15 days. When you move in rank, either up or down, uou keep the remainder of the time on your account at that new level. It does not cost any credits to move down in rank, however you have to use the full amount of credits when you move up. Moving up in rank adds an additional 30 days to the remainder if your account. If you wish to extend your current level just click the 'Extend' button and the correct amount of credits required will be debited on your account and an additional 30 days will be added to your account.
The columns for the admin level section mean the following:
Activate - If you meet all the requirements an Activate button will appear. Once you push this button you will change your account to this level and your account will be debeted the required credits.
Open To You - This means an XA or a V level administrator feels you are capable if handling this level and you can move up to it when you meet the other requirements. This column is managed manually by XA and V level administrators and cannot automatically be adjusted.
Required Credits - This is the amount of credits you need to activate this level if you are upgrading to it or extending it.
Online Hours - How many hours you must be online to upgrade to this level.
Admin Hours - How many playtime hours as an administrator or regular to upgrade to this level
Exam Taken - Have you taken the exam that is required to activate this level
Exam Final Mark - What was your mark on the exam and was it high enough to pass.
Exam Date - The date you last took the exam. If you failed you will have to wait 14 days from this date to take the exam again.
Exam Guide - Link to the exam guide you can use to take the test.
Exam - Link to the Exam you are required to pass to become this level.
The "Regular and Administrator Information" provides you with details about your administrative abilities on the server including your access level, days remaining, available ranks and the dates you joined and changed rank.
The last two sections are fairly self explanitory. Just take a look!

(R) Status and Admin Changes being proposed |

Hey Guys!
I just wanted to let everyone know of some changes that will be coming up to Vir's Pub that will heavily affect the way we have been doing things at Vir's in regards to (R) status and Administrator status. We were in the process of setting up system to automate the admin and regular application process when we realized it is time to get serious about keeping money flowing to the server without me having to cover the costs out of pocket when we fall short (still $90 short for last month). We simply cannot give away everything plus the kitchen sink =/. However we will also increase the features you receive when you donate for these new levels.
So here is the plan:
1) All (R) status players will be asked to donate $5 every 30 days for their status. They will still be required to take the Regular test and their Regular status can still be taken away if abused.
2) All B/G/A level admins will be required to donate $7.50 every 30 days for their status. They will still be required to take the Administrator test and their Administrator status can still be taken away if abused.
3) All UA/XA level admins will be required to donate $10 every 30 days for their status. They will get demoted if they abuse their administrator status.
4) Any (R) status player looking to become admin will be required to make a new donation regardless of the last time they donated for their (R) status. They will not get credit for their days remaining as a (R) status.
5) All new admins will start at the ( B ) level for the first 30 days. Once they make their next payment they will be moved to the (G) level. Once they are at the (G) level any promotions will be as the discretion of the higher level administrators.
6) If you donate over your minimum amount it will add more time to your status as long as the amount meets the next step. So for example if you are a regular and you donate $10, you will be covered for 60 days. If you were to donate $7, you would only be covered for 30 days.
7) The donation system will become completely automated. No more waiting for me to add you! You will automatically be added to the proper level on the website, the server and anywhere else where it needs to be applied. None of these new changes will take place until this automated system is complete.
8) It will send you a reminder ingame when your time is about to run out so you can recharge your account.
9) If you miss a donation you will not lose your administrator rank unless you do not pay for 3 months. You can be inactive and keep your rank for up to one year as long as you are current with your donations. After that time you will lose any rank you had in the system to make way for new and active administrators.
10) Hats will only be for Regular and Administrator level players.
11) Coloured names will be for Regular and Administrator level players.
12) Picking up RTD rewards, mines, mine accessories and parachutes from loot bags will be for Regular and Administrator level players.`
13) Apache RTD will be for Regulars and Administrators.
14) Regulars alltalk time will regenerate twice as fast. Admins get unlimited.
15) Regulars get to use the reserved slot.
16) Regulars and admins map vote will be worth 2 votes.
17) When a regular or admin shoots someone not only will it show you the damage you did it will tell you their name.
18) Regulars and administrators will get Admin ESP when they are dead.
19) Regulars and administrators will not be punished for TKing.
20) Regulars and administrators can have their own customized join announcements
21) Regulars and administrators will get double the reward in last man bets!
22) Regulars and administrators will receive a M4 instead of Famas as VIP on AS maps
23) Regulars and administrators health regen will regenerate 50hp instead off 35hp
24) Regulars and administrators can spectate without restriction
Current admins and regular players will all get a grace period before they are required to donate. The breakdown is as follows:
XA level admins will get a 90 day grace period
UA level admins will get a 60 day grace period
A level admins will get a 45 day grace period
B/G level admins will get a 30 day grace period
R level players will get a 15 day grace period
Anyone who feels like they deserve a larger grace period can contact me and we can work things on a one on one basis. People who I feel may deserve a longer grade period are people who may have recently donated a large sum of money, anyone who have been a pillar in the community for years or anyone who may have or may be continuing to provide an important service to the server.
Anyway right now this is all in the planning stage. We will be starting to impliment these chances, however I felt it was important to get peoples feedback to see what they think of these new changes. These changes will not be activated until we get the automated system ready. Some changes may be implimented at a later date depending on the time it takes to program them.

Hey Guys,
I realize the server hasn't been up long, however we are due to pay for our new connection. So soon! I know! But yes, it has been a month now that we've had an active connection with them. They want some moneh! So please if you can donate it would be appreciated. We need $175 to cover our month to month. It's expensive I know. Please donate. They will be shutting us off soon. We currently only have $5 in paypal. I am going to sell our old motherboard which should get us about $150 but that wont be until next month. So please donattttee!
If you are wondering where I have been - I have been super busy and some new software for the server. It should help us solve the problem in regards to the lack of players on the server during off hours. I have already spent about 40 hours developing it and I figure it will require another 40 hours before it's ready to go. It will allow ANYONE to help us fill our server with players with little effort. It is pretty exciting.
I will have the stats and the ninja jump working shortly. I will then work on the map uploader and a the chat logs/demos.

Hey guys,
Server is nearly up. The webserver is in place at it's new home. The CS Server is also there but it is giving us a bit of trouble as it is not responding to pings. I am working on it with my host. It should be working tomorrow at the latest. If things go well maybe even tonight. You will notice posts in the forums appearing and going away - this is because we have two servers and I've been switching between them so the website doesn't go down.
Once the server is up we still have a lot of work connecting everything back together again. It will probably be a week before we get things back working the way they were before this whole mess. Sorry for the delay, the server troubles set us back 4 days.
