TOPIC: Admin References

Admin References 1 year, 1 month ago #29814

Wanted to float a new idea by you all.

I want admins to be more interactive with new players so I've been trying to think up a way to encourage admins to talk to new players. I've thought up an idea and want to run it by everyone and get their opinion.

Basically I'm thinking of making it a requirement to get new player references to increase your rank. How it would work is to move up in rank you would need to get a new player to register on the site/account manager. As you progress up the ranks, you would need more and more references to make it to the next level. Each level requires a certain count of new registrations.

So this is how it would break down:
RX : 1 Registration
B : 2 Registrations
G : 4 Registrations
A : 6 Registrations
UA : 10 Registrations
XA : 16 Registrations
V : 1000000000000000.0 Registrations

When a player registers they select who referenced them from a dropdown list.

Thoughts? Opinions?

How exactly would you track it? People are lazy and wouldn't take the time to put in referral information.

I like the idea, as long as it's just another requirement and doesn't replace the system that we already have in place.

One question though, how would it effect existing admins?

I think its wise up to maybe G.. but from A to XA should always be about how to manage hackers / racists.

For example, as much A admins as we've had, we've barely seen any good admins who were able to handle / manage complex situation with multiple references, proofs of demo and reasonable explanation of why they should be kept banned.

A admin stage should be the beginning of this and by UA, you should be able to defend your own ban responsibilities. As for XA, its when they know the situation upside down, also able to handle complex situation upside down, even able to keep our own regulars/RX and admins banned if they were to argue.

Im sure Vir already knows this but I wanna say it to put it out to everyone. That being said, people'll just get hungry for rank and get people to sign up. Which IS good but bad same time as we've already seen with hour abusive from multiple players.

I guess the we gotta be really careful with this direction.. But from A to UA should be earned in my opinion.

Re: Admin References 1 year, 1 month ago #29821

I expect it will be a challenge to get people to sign up. We may have to tweak the requirements over time. I'm also sure people will find a way to manipulate it. But we can always fix those after the fact.

Not to get offtopic dann but I expect the higher ranks will end up being voted in - similiar to the way the lower ranks vote are voted in. Except instead of the ranks above you voting for you - it will be the ranks below you that vote you in.

I like the idea. I really think any sort of incentive whether it gets enough notice or not will help bring in some new players, and more importantly, more regulars.

I thought it would be nice to have a requirement to get unbanned (if you register primarily to contest a ban) to upload or select a forum avatar. It's would be silly, but would show the user's intent on getting unbanned and perhaps a little forced personalization might have the user return and become a regular.

I can't find it, but I think my first post was an unban request.

AwesomeSauce - that's actually one of the reasons MCS keeps their hostage ban in place. Many people accidentally kill hostages and get banned so they register on the forums and eventually end up staying. Giving REG players protection from that ban was a reason for them to sign up for it.

Although I'd say setting an avatar is a bit too silly, lol.

What about lowering the amount of credits new players get ingame to 20 and giving them the remaining 30 when they sign up on the forums? That'd be useful when buying perks comes back into play.

I know of a server that makes you do this before you can even apply to be admin. Maybe we should have it be - "If you don't add an avatar to your website profile, you lose your status". That would bring ALL of the community members in and make it so when newer players want to get admin they have to come to website and stay for more than 5 minutes.

I like this idea. It gave me another one that could help keep regulars. People love numbers going up, it makes them feel good, and the success of world of warcraft relies on those facts. Vir's server does a good job of this already with credits going up by accumulating hours and time. If we have one time achievements that offer rewards of 10 credits a piece to users who do enough repetitive tasks like killing 100 people, next 1000 people, next 5000, etc. rescuing hostages, planting bombs, defusing, buying kits even.

Counter-strike source has have achievement list we can use for reference.

Added a avatar to your website account? Here's 5 credits.

Well you have to remember that people get credits for playing already as well as (more importantly) donating. We don't want to go overboard with giving people free credits. So 300 kills = 1 credit, 100 hostages = 1 credit, 25 bombs exploded/defused = 1 credit, etc. Keep the numbers low, but still there so people have something to aim for. Either that or have it stepped (100, 1000, 10000) as you mentioned. Great idea though.

I wonder how taxing the system would be on the server. It'd have to register a whole lot of information at the end of each round.

I agree, I was giving examples.

That is true, and a very important issue. We cannot sacrifice game play for statistics and log calculations. These processes should be done differently perhaps, I would have to ponder that.

Re: Admin References 1 year ago #30082

Sounds like a great idea. Might also help getting some of the unregistred regs to show up and join in on discussions/ideas to make the server better.
