We had a major failure of an upgrade tonight. Our hard drive controller seems to have failed and our hard drive with the server on it seems to also be failing and the server has corrupted data. Kind of puts us in a kind of a bind here. A new controller card is going to run around $120-$200 and I just spent $200 on new hard drives. Seems we didn't get them quick enough.
We need donations and we need them fast! Please donate we need to replace this ASAP. I can probably get things jury rigged for now (I hope) but please don't think you can ignore this problem and hope it goes away. Hard drives don't start corrupting data unless somethings seriously is wrong with them. So please help out so we can get these parts. I was not expecting on having to replace the controller card as well =/.
Visit the donation section on the left for more information. You do get limited admin from it so it's not a total loss on your end.

Server Upgrade Schedualed for Tonight

I am going down to Waterloo tonight to install two new 147GB 15,000RPM SAS hard drives, upgrade the RAM on our webserver from 512mb to (hopefully) 2GB if the machine accepts 1gb sticks and see if I can get the SAS controller card back up and running. This means a unknown amount of downtime (depends how long its going to take to figure out the SAS controller problem). If all goes smooth this may only be about 10-30min of downtime. If things go south this may be hours long.
On a brighter note due to the donations we can afford these much needed fixes and upgrades. Big thanks goes out to all those people who donated to us. I hope everyone realizes I spent every penny of the donations to increase server capability. We are always finding ways to push the server to it's limit, and I assure you we use every ounce of power the server can offer us. So every upgrade helps our server grow.
Next on our list is a new CPU and possibly a new motherboard to go with it. That one will probably cost us at least 600-700. Old CPU and motherboard of course will be put to use helping the server in other ways.
So please keep donating. We can always use your help.

I have noticed people starting to idle as spectator on the server to save a spot for later. These players took up 3 spots for 3 hours that could have been used for people who actually wanted to play. Thus any players who idle for more than 10 minutes will be banned for a period of 1200 minutes. There is no warning. Have some respect for other people trying to get onto the server. If you want a dedicated spot donate and get access to the reserved spot. Otherwise disconnect and let someone else play.

Hey Guys!
Over the past few months I have been working hard on cleaning up the server and increasing traffic. Looks like the results are finally paying off after a few bumps on the road.
Yesturday we made a new record for the amount of player connections per day. Our average is currently 2871 player connections a day. Well on Sunday we hit a total of 5481 player connections! I beleive previous records were in the 4800 range so this is a signifigant increase in player count. Generally on Sundays we see quite a few players but this is something I have not seen before.
Looks like Vir's Pub is back on track! So keep on playing here guys, we appreciate the time you spend on the server. Lets keep Vir's full and fun!

Rules Request Forum

I have created a new forum where players can request rules and rule changes. We are looking to get a list of map specific rules so we can create administrator responses to a player who breaks map specific rules. Example would be going ontop of the red rock in nuke - some administrators do not allow it while others do. We need to make a map specific rule on if this is allowed or if it is not allowed and the appropriate response an administrator should take if the rule is broken.
Also any customs on a map should also be made into a rule. For example on certain knifing maps its a custom to only do 1vs1 and ganging up on a player is frowned upon. Should this be made into an enforcable rule? Post a message if you thing it should!
This forum also is for any additions to the overall server rules that we may not currently have.
